Information for Clients

Thank you for deciding to stay at Yukon Mountain Retreat.

This information may be useful to you as you prepare for your trip.  Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask us.  We very much look forward to seeing you when you arrive in Whitehorse.

Fishing: The retreat lies 40 meters from the lakeshore. This small mountain lake contains abundant northern grayling and Whitefish. A canoe and a 12ft motorboat are provided your use.

Hiking: The rich wildlife has ensured an extensive network of game trails throughout the valley. It is easy to travel most places on foot. There are well-marked hiking trails around the lodge and along the lakeshore. The more adventurous will want to explore the surrounding hills and alpine areas. Trails into these areas are rugged and require good fitness. Once in the alpine regions, walking is easy. There are 1000-foot granite cliffs overlooking the lake to challenge mountain climbers.

Wildlife viewing: Mountain sheep make their home in the hills around the lake, and can often be seen from the lodge. Hikes into the alpine meadows provide excellent opportunities to view these beautiful animals amid spectacular scenery. Moose are common in the valley and can often be seen on the hillsides or at the lakeshore in the early mornings or late evenings. Grizzly and black bear can occasionally be seen roaming the hills. In this wilderness environment, the bears tend to be shy and flee at sight or smell of man. Wolves, fox, wolverine, lynx and coyotes also live in the area. Rarely seen due to their nocturnal habits, the best opportunities for viewing are in the alpine areas. Other wildlife you can expect to see near the lake include beaver, otter, loons and ducks.

Getting there is easy!  Canadian Airlines International has several fights each day from Vancouver, where easy connections can be made from anywhere in the world. There are also direct charters from Germany. Contact your travel agent to make arrangements.
What should you bring? Clothing should be loose and comfortable. Include sturdy walking shoes, rain gear, and a light daypack. Remember, once you are at the retreat, no additional supplies can be ordered. If you have any special requirements or medications, be sure to bring enough for your stay.
You may wish to bring some groceries or specialty items from your hometown. We recommend you shop for groceries when in Whitehorse prior to departure. There are several modern supermarkets in town.

What is the weather like? The summers are dry, but afternoon showers can be common. Summer days are often 18 to 25 degrees Celsius (68 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit). Humidity is low. It is light outside 24 hours a day from June to mid-August. Winters are cold with very short days from December to February.
